Free Service in Royal Oak Helps Dispose of Medication

  • September 29, 2012

The Royal Oak Community Coalition is sponsoring two services to help dispose of unused, unneeded or expired medication to help keep community families safe and Royal Oak’s waterways clean. These services are free, safe and confidential.

For expired or unneeded prescription medication, you need to either remove the labels from your pill bottles or cross off the personal information with a black marker. Alternatively, you may put your old pills in a zip-top bag.

The Royal Oak police station lobby (221 E. Third St.) has a box for depositing them. The lobby is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For non-controlled drugs, vitamins, cough drops, cold and flu medication, pet medication, insulin and more, you can take them to one of three locations: the Royal Oak Walgreens Pharmacy at 1815 Rochester Road (north of 12 Mile), the Custom Care Pharmacy at 3535 W. 13 Mile Road (in the Medical Building), or the Clawson Pharmacy at 560 W. 14 Mile Road (to the east of Crooks Road).

Old medication is also accepted by SOCRRA through the Household Hazardous Waste Program. Call (248) 288-5153 to schedule an appointment.
