Northminster Presbyterian Church in Troy Offers Special Taize Service On Ash Wednesday

  • January 31, 2013

On Ash Wednesday February 13th at 7 PM, Northminster Presbyterian Church and the Central Woodward Christian Church inTroy will hold a special Taize worship service for the entire community at Northminster.

“The Taize service offers a wonderful opportunity to join others in the surrounding community for singing, silence, and contemplative prayer that allows an even greater opportunity for the affirmation of God’s presence and forgiveness,” said Charlotte Sommers, the pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church. “In addition to the imposition of ashes to remind us of our mortality and to cherish life, there will be a lighting of candles and prayers for the world, others, and ourselves.”

Founded after World War II, the Taizé community was formed as an intentional place for peace and reconciliation in the south Burgundy region of France. After visiting the Taize community, Rev. Sommers has occasionally offered the unique service at Northminster.

All people regardless of faith, background, age, or sexual orientation are welcome. Dress is casual.

Northminster Presbyterian Church is located at 3633 West Big Beaver Road inTroy between Adams and Coolidge). For more information, go towww.troynorthminster.org or call 248-644-5920.
