Ravens Feast on Yellow Jackets
Written by Duane Harlick
The Royal Oak Ravens Varsity Hockey team took to the ice Saturday night at Troy Sports Arena looking to exact some revenge against an Avondale High School team that had
defeated them earlier in the season. It’s been an up and down season for the young Ravens team this year, but Saturday showed just how good they can be
when all facets are pointing upward!
The Ravens jumped on the Yellow Jackets early, scoring twice in the first period, and never let up. Their continued, relentless offensive assault led to 6 unanswered goals in the second period. The game eventually timed out with a 9 – 1 Ravens victory.
Assistant Coach Eric Button was extremely satisfied with the performance of his forwards, stating, “This is how we can play every game. This is what the team is capable
of on any given night”.
The Ravens scoring was spread out across several players and lines, with senior Seth Schuit leading the way with two goals and Quinn Fall breaking the “Freshman Curse” by scoring the first goal for his class. Meanwhile, at the other end of the ice, senior goaltender Max Benoit was outstanding in net, allowing only one goal on 35 shots.
Head Coach Craig Ward commented, “This one of the best games we played all season. I believe that we got better every shift and our goaltending was solid. We had
eight different players score and 3 players get there first goal as a Raven. It was exciting to watch the team execute what we have been working on and capitalize and create opportunities.
The Ravens return home on Wednesday, January 23, to face off against Oxford at John Lindell arena in Royal Oak. For more information, go to www.royaloakravens.com or follow the Ravens on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/royaloakhighschoolvarsityhockeyteam.
