Third Annual Outdoor Blessing of the Animals Service

  • September 9, 2012

Northminster Presbyterian Church in Troy will host the third annual community wide outdoor Blessing of the Animals Service on Sunday Sept. 30 at 2 p.m..

The general public is invited to bring pets of all kinds as Rev. Charlotte Sommers will offer a special blessing for each individual animal. There will also be general prayers for healing of pets who are ill and a thanksgiving for those that are deceased.

In addition, Dr. Kathryn Christy, DVM, the owner of Oakland Hills Veterinary Hospital in Troy, will offer “Health Tips for Pets” and answer questions. Music, refreshments, and pet treats will be provided.

“Animals and pets are a special part of our lives, as they give us so much comfort, joy, and unconditional love,” said Rev. Sommers.  “We welcome everyone in the community to bring their pets large and small to our special outdoor service so we may celebrate their lives and offer a blessing to them.”

Each participant will receive a Blessing Certificate and a family photo taken with their pet will be emailed. If a pet cannot be brought to the service, participants may bring a photo and complete a special blessing card.

The service will be conducted on the south side of the church at the memorial garden gazebo. Northminster Presbyterian Church is located at 3633 West Big Beaver Road in Troy between Adams and Coolidge). For more information, go to www.troynorthminster.org or call 248-644-5920.
