Voters Meet Judicial Candidates at Library

  • July 27, 2012

The Judicial Forum Thursday night at the Royal Oak Public Library was a great success. Five non-incumbent candidates are running in the primary on Aug. 7 to fill the seat of Judge Sosnick who is retiring. They are Dan Christ, Sehara Housey, Karen McDonald, Jason Pernick,
and Layne Sakwa.

Each candidate spoke for five minutes and answered questions from the moderators and the audience. The top two vote-getters in the primary will be placed on the November ballot.

The session that followed included the five incumbent judges who are up for re-election: Hon. Leo Bowman, Hon. Phyllis McMillen, Hon.Denise Langford-Morris, Hon.Wendy Potts, and Hon. Michael Warren.

Each of the judges gave a description of their background, and talked about the type of work they do, including case loads, case preparation, sentencing guidelines, and of the service they do in the community outside of court. They each described the amount of sharing and help they give each other within their ranks due to the increased level of total cases.
