'Walk the Indian Trail' Essay Contest

The Friends of the Almon Starr House and Royal Oak Historical Society are sponsoring a "Walk the Indian Trail" essay and costume contest, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the placement of a historic marker at the Almon Starr House in Royal Oak.
 
The contest is open to school children grades 3-8. Cash prizes of $35, $25, and $15 will be given for best essays in each division (grades 3-5 and grades 608).  Cash prizes of $30 and $20 will be given for best girl's costume and best boy's costume.
 
Essays can be historical or fictional and use 1st or 3rd person, with a length of 300-600 words, typed or hand-written, and may contain original artwork.
 
Essays must be postmarked by May 8th, 2012 and mailed to Priscilla Hawkins, 1451 S. Washington, Royal Oak MI 48067.  Winners will receive their prizes at the Walk the Indian Trail event on Saturday, May 19th, 2012, 10:00 am - 12:00 noon at the Almon Starr House, 3123 Crooks, Royal Oak 48073.
 
Children who would like help or advice in creating costumes or writing their essay are invited to attend a free event at the Royal Oak Public Library auditorium on Saturday, April 21st from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon.  A language arts teacher and seamstress will be present to give their expert advice.
