5 Things to Do This Week
Here are some highlights of what is going on this week around Royal Oak.
Monday – The Royal Oak City Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of City Hall in commission chambers. Items on the agenda include the second reading of an amendment to an ordinance prohibiting aggressive begging; purchasing credit card-capable parking meters; and accepting the city’s 2011-12 budget and setting a public hearing to discuss the budget line items.
Thursday – The Royal Oak City Commission will meet at 6 p.m. on the third floor of City Hall in commission chambers for a special workshop to discuss the budget as presented by city officials during the Monday regular commission meeting. The public is invited to the meeting, and copies of the budget as proposed are available at the Royal Oak Public Library and at the city’s website.
Thursday – Children from St. Paul Lutheran and St. Mary churches and schools will lead the community in prayer at noon at the memorials between City Hall and the Royal Oak Public Library. The event is in observance of the National Day of Prayer. In case of rain, the event will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Saturday – The Boys & Girls Club Walk for the Future begins 8:30 a.m. at Memorial Park in Royal Oak. Area residents are invited to participate in the fun activity benefiting a good cause. The event will feature exercise, games and fun for the entire family.
Sunday – Royal Oak in Bloom will kick off at 7 a.m. in front of City Hall in downtown Royal Oak. The annual event and Mother’s Day tradition is presented by English Gardens. More than 80 vendors are anticipated, and Royal Oak Garden Club and Royal Oak Nature Society members will also be on hand to answer gardening questions.
