5 Things to Know this Week

We've got Restaurant Week and more going on in Royal Oak.

 

There's always a lot going on in Royal Oak. Here are some highlights this week:

Pizzeria Biga opens on Monday: Pizzeria Biga, located on the top floor of the century-old St. Clair Edison building at 711 S. Main,  opens to the public at 11 a.m. The menu includes handcrafted pizzas, Italian antipasti, appetizers, salads, pastas, and desserts, such as homemade gelato, which is made fresh daily. The restaurant’s hours are: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Senior Fundraiser on Tuesday: The Mahany/Meininger Senior Community Center is having a fundraiser on Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Sign of the Beefcarver. The restaurant will be donating 15 percent of all food purchases to the senior center to assist with raising funds for various activities.

State of the Schools Address on Thursday: Royal Oak Schools Superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin will talk directly with parents and community members about district achievements from the past year and to look ahead to the challenges and opportunities that await public education. The address starts at 7 p.m. at Royal Oak Middle School.

Michael Greening pre-exam conference on Friday: Royal Oak High School Principal Michael Greening was arraigned last Friday on two felony embezzlement charges, each carrying a maximum five-year penalty and/or fines. Greening is back in 44th District Court this week for a pre-exam conference at 9 a.m.

Royal Oak Restaurant Week begins on Friday: Restaurant Week returns for 10 days beginning on Friday. This year 24 diverse destinations will participate. It’s a great opportunity to rediscover a long time favorite or experience a hot new eatery. No tickets or passes are necessary.
