Learn to paint a vase of flowers, purple lilies, big blue flowers, trees or a pear with blossums with step-by-step instruction in Royal Oak's newest studio.

Local artist Kathy Paré opened Paint Party Royal Oak at 2514 W. 14 Mile Rd. this weekend. Paré offers two-hour group acrylic painting classes on canvas for adults, families and private parties. Classes are designed for novice and experienced artists. Canvas, paint, brushes and aprons are provided. 

"We also have hours where artists can come in and do their own thing. People can use our paint and brushes," Paré said. "Some people just need a place to work. Others just need motivation."

On Sunday, Paint Party sold out a family class in which artists created pumpkin masterpieces. Beth Hartgers of Rochester Hills was there taking her second painting class of the weekend.

"I really enjoy painting here," Hartgers said. "All your cares in the world just sort of melt away. It's really enjoyable, really relaxing."
