This year's tree lighting ceremony at the Royal Oak Farmers Market, set for 6:15 p.m. Thursday, will be an extravaganza.

Not only will visitors hear carolers, enjoy a special performance by the Salvation Army Band and the Royal Oak Children's Choir  – topped off with an appearance by the Jolly Old Elf himself – they can also buy unique holiday presents at the Holiday Magic Marketplace from 4-8 p.m.

In the meantime, you don't have to wait for Santa Claus to pull the switch to brighten your night. A walk around downtown reveals several restaurants and shops are sporting a holiday glow.

So this article says 6:15 but the city of Royal Oak's website says 7. Do you know which is right?

Amanda, get there early. It's a festive event. The Salvation Army band begins early, and the crowd sings Christmas carols. Santa arrives and the lights are turned on at 7pm. The Farmers Market is alive and filled with holiday spirit.

Amanda! I am so sorry I accidentally deleted your comment. The tree lighting ceremony is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. So if you just want to see Santa flip the switch arrive at 7 p.m. If you want to enjoy carolers and the band arrive early!
