Comcast Offers Low-Cost Internet for Qualifying Families
The plan offers an affordable service and a low-cost computer to families with students on free/reduced lunch.
The following information is provided by the School District of the City of Royal Oak:
Don’t miss out! If you have not done so already, there is still time to get your application submitted for this great opportunity.
We want to make sure you know about a new program provided by Comcast called Internet Essentials. If you have at least one child receiving free or reduced price school lunches, your family may qualify for this fast, affordable home Internet service.
For families who qualify, the Royal Oak Foundation for Public Education will pay the monthly cost of Internet Essentials which is $9.95 per month (plus tax). In addition they have agreed to buy a low-cost computer. The Foundation’s support will make this a free program for up to 100 eligible families for a period of two years.
This special program is only available to families who meet the following criteria:
- Located where Comcast offers Internet service
- Has at least one child receiving free or reduced price school lunches through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and attends Royal Oak Schools
- Has not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days
- Does not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment (If this is a concern, please contact the Comcast Amnesty department for assistance)
Return completed application by March 15, 2013 to Paula Sutterfield, 1123 Lexington Blvd., Royal Oak, MI 48073. Once all qualified applications are completed, Comcast will verify/approve. Comcast will then notify approved families, who will then be able to pick up materials/equipment at an event at Royal Oak Middle School (Gathering Place), 709 N. Washington, Royal Oak, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April 29, 2013 (*note date change).
Again, we, along with the support of our Education Foundation want to make sure that our students have access to online learning, and we are excited to tell you about programs like Internet Essentials that may be helpful to your family.
