Court Hearing for Michael Greening Postponed
The Royal Oak resident resigned as principal of Royal Oak High School while facing felony embezzlement charges.
Michael Greening, whose resignation as principal of Royal Oak High School was announced Wednesday in the face of felony embezzlement charges, will not be in court Friday as planned.
Greening's preliminary exam conference in 44th District Court in Royal Oak has been adjourned to June 22 because his attorney, Paul Stablein, is working on a trial in federal court, Stablein told Royal Oak Patch on Thursday.
Greening had been on paid administrative leave since mid-December "due to the possibility of financial irregularities in student activities funds."
The longtime Royal Oak resident, teacher and administrator was arraigned April 20 on two counts of felony embezzlement. The basis for the charges came from investigations by the Royal Oak Police Department and Oakland County prosecutors that allege the principal took between $2,000 and up to $40,000 from the school's student activities funds.
If convicted, Greening faces up to five years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000 or three times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater, for each charge.
