KouZina, which means kitchen in Greek, officially opened its doors today at 121 N. Main St.

It's the newest eatery in town, and judging by the comments of patrons, it is destined for success.

"The food is excellent here – and I got a free T-shirt," said Marty Tarr, who was with friend enjoying a early lunch at the restaurant Monday. "I was the fourth customer."

The restaurant, which offers Greek street food, is located in a carefully remodeled space on Main Street north of 11 Mile that housed a Zumba before the before the Mexican eatery moved across the street in May. The new design is comfortably modern and fresh with blue walls walls, wooden counters and glass tile accents. An outdoor patio dining area is ready and waiting for warmer weather.

KouZina's offers gyros, salads, spinach pie, soups, salads, and baklava - all for less than $6. There's no wait staff – orders are placed at the counters and patrons can watch their food being prepared.

Cheryl Loukinen and David Crandall, both of Royal Oak, raved about the pita bread, which is made fresh in the restaurant.

"What I love is that they make the traditional beef and lamb gyro, but they also have a marinated pork gyros, which is what is traditional in Greece," said Grover McNamara, also of Royal Oak. "They have a chicken gyro, too. I'd have to say if you are in the market for a gyro, you couldn't do better than this."

KouZina will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday; noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
