Whimsy, a new art consignment store, is celebrating its "soft opening" from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. The store is in the mini-mall at 1800 14 Mile Rd., just west of Crooks.
“People can stop by and see a work in progress,” said Heidi Looney, who with partner Laura Ortiz founded the funky boutique. “They can shop, look around and have refreshments.”
With freshly painted colorful walls and plenty of natural lighting, Whimsy is a place with 58 artists displaying their works in one space. Items include candles, fused glass jewelry, industrial jewelry, photography, unique purses and more. There is even a “kids section” with artwork made especially for children.
“We wanted to create a fun, whimsical space that featured the work of local artists,” Looney said. “Our official grand opening is March 24, but until then people can stop by and see us. We’re here seven days a week.”
