Want to know where the best drink specials are in Royal Oak? A new happy hour app can help you. And, it’s free.
HappyHour for iPhone from Moveable Bytes uses loads of criteria to help its users find the perfect deal—sorting options by day of the week, time of day, type of deal or location.
The app doesn’t require Internet access to use and makes it easy to invite friends to meet you.
In addition to helping you find Royal Oak discounts, the app also works in Ann Arbor, Birmingham, Detroit, Ferndale and Ypsilanti.

Maybe the Community Coalition can put out an app with the locations of all the drug and heroin overdoses that have happened in town in the last 5 years?

Unlike other communities, Royal Oak bars puts all the emphasis on the alcohol and drinking, and none on the food and eating.
This is where the city should be stepping in and refocussing what our community desires to be. They don't, though. The city and elected officials seem content to be known as the party downtown. Very sad.

The master plan for Royal Oak is to turn Main Street into Bourbon Street North! They might as well change the cities name to Gomorra. The residents and families come second to keeping the river of booze and cash flowing through downtown. That is where all of the new cops are going; taxpayer funded bouncers for rich out of town tavern owners. If you don't like it pack up and move to Birmingham! or head down to the party and drink up.

A number of progressive cities across the country have apps where one can report street lights that are out, or code enforcement complaints, etc.
Do you think we should be excited and proud because Royal Oak doesn't offer those type of apps, but instead we have a Happy Hour app?

This app was not developed or maintained by the local government. It's a private party enterprise. Nothing wrong with that. And everyone who wants to complain about it, what do you want done? A government ban? If you think that's appropriate, your inner tyrant is showing.
Bill, what is the ROI for these "progressive city" apps? Building and maintaining software is not cheap.
BTW, "progressive" is just code for liberal. Detroit was a great experiment in building a liberal city. Look how that's worked out...
