Man Found Dead at Belle Tire in Royal Oak Linked to Slaying of Detroit Woman
Man apparently shot himself inside the car in the parking lot, leaving a note saying he killed the woman in Detroit on Tuesday, police say.
A man found dead in a car in a Royal Oak parking lot Wednesday morning may be the person responsible for the death of a woman who was shot to death in a van near her home on West Outer Drive in Detroit on Tuesday night as a child watched, police said.
Employees of Belle Tire on Woodward showing up to work about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday called the Royal Oak Police Department about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers arriving on the scene found the body of a man, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
Royal Oak detectives investigated and canvassed the 13 Mile and Woodward area and contacted Detroit Police after finding a note in the car in which the dead man identified himself as the person who shot and killed a woman on West Outer Drive, according to Royal Oak Police Lt. Tom Goad.
Detroit Police Officer Phillip Cook confirmed the man found in Royal Oak is a person of interest in the Outer Drive homicide. That investigation is ongoing, according to Cook.
Royal Oak Police are treating the incident as a suicide, Goad said. An autopsy is expected to be performed Thursday, he said.
