Royal Oak Middle School Student Fastest at Mashed Potato Mile
Marcus Jackson wins one mile race Thanksgiving morning before America's Thanksgiving Parade.
A Royal Oak Middle School seventh-grader was the fastest miler in Detroit on Thanksgiving.
Marcus Jackson, 12, crossed the finish line in 6:08 - a personal record - to win the Mashed Potato Mile before America's Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday. (Brother Leonard Jackson, 19, ran the Turkey Trot 10K in 35:44 for 39th place.)
More than 22,000 runners, joggers and walkers competed in the 30th Turkey Trot events, including Royal Oak's Luke Humphrey, 31, who made the leaderboard finishing the 10K race in 31:35 for fourth place.

Great day for the Jackson boys of Royal Oak- very proud of their accomplishments, great things ahead for both of them, These apples didn't fall far from the tree, both parents were great runners as well!

Thanks Judy for posting! Marcus surprised us both due to the fact he was only suppose to run the Mash Potato Mile to get a workout for his upcoming race at the AAU Cross Country Nationals in South Carolina on Dec. 1st.
