Meet and Greet Your Candidates at Open House

If they are running for state House, Congress or Oakland County offices, they were invited to this unique, interactive forum at Oakland University.

Oakland University’s Office of Government Relations has invited the candidates to interact with students, faculty, alumni and members of the community at an upcoming meet-and-greet event.

Dozens of local candidates have been invited to a Meet the Candidates Open House from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Shotwell-Gustafson Pavilion on Oakland’s campus.

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested by the end of the day Friday, Oct. 12 at dimercur@oakland.edu or by calling (248) 370-3683.

The invited candidates include:

  • Oakland County - all countywide offices
  • State House District 22 - Roseville and Warren (part)
  • State House District 25 - Sterling Heights and Warren (part)
  • State House District 26 - Madison Heights and Royal Oak
  • State House District 29 - Auburn Hills, Keego Harbor, Orchard Lake Village, Pontiac and Sylvan Lake
  • State House District 30 - Shelby Township, Sterling Heights and Utica
  • State House District 36 - Bruce Township, Shelby Township and Washington Township
  • State House District 41 - Clawson and Troy
  • State House District 43 - Clarkston, Independence Township, Lake Angelus and Waterford Township
  • State House District 45 - Oakland Township, Rochester and Rochester Hills
  • Congressional District 11

“This event will feature a rare opportunity for potential voters to interact face-to-face with candidates from this area who are running for office,” said Rochelle Black, vice president for Government and Community Relations.

“This November will mark an important election for the nation, and will also determine the next leaders of our communities. I encourage all members of the university community and the general public to attend.”

Thanks for posting this info. Made my reservation and found out that three candidates for congressional district 11 have committed to attending: Dr. Syed Taj, Kerry Bentivolio, and John Tater.

Kerry Bentivolio is emerging from his undisclosed location to actually be seen by his possible constituents?

I'll believe it when I actually see him. Man's been as elusive as the real Santa Claus.

Herb I agree. Although it makes perfect sense keeping Kerry out of the limelight until after the election. Brilliant move by his handlers. When guys like Kerry talk they can only harm their campaigns. Look at Tom McMillin in Rochester.

I was told the format would be informal. First the candidates will each be given 5-minutes to make a speech, then they would each be seated at tables to meet and greet people. Both Bentivolio and Taj went to similar "meet & greet" events in Waterford last month.
BTW, Sunday's Free Press has in-depth profiles of Taj and Bentivolio with just the facts, no bias that I can see....each has a in bold typeset someone saying something nice about each of them. It did explain for me Bentivolio's grudge against the Free Press; he sued them for $1 million dollars in damages for slander 20 years ago (involved case having to do with his Santa Claus venture) and was awared $50 by a mediation panel.

Attended this open house. Kerry Bentivolio again was a no-show, I feel like meeting him is akin to a snipe hunt! Dr. Taj spoke but couldn't stay long having to attend a Canton township board meeting in his position as trustee. Appreciate him driving the long distance to meet his possible constituents.
I also appreciate the Oakland county candidates who came out, and Oakland U for hosting...thanks to you all!
