New Rooftop Pub to Open Thursday

The Red Fox English Pub, atop Cantina Diablo's in downtown Royal Oak, specializes in cuisine, beer and sports from 'across the pond.'

Filing a niche unlike anything else in the area, the Red Fox English Pub is scheduled to open Thursday in downtown Royal Oak.

The elevated space will resemble an English pub, quite different from the Tex-Mex atmosphere below at Cantina Diabalo's. It will feature a large outdoor patio, seating about 66 people, and broadcast soccer and rugby games from the European soccer package for rabid "football" fans.

The Red Fox English Pub will feature:

  • 40 European and local Michigan beers – and you don't have to be a beer snob to enjoy them.
  • Live soccer and rugby matches on large flat-screen TVs placed throughout the bar.
  • A full stand-alone kitchen specializing in English favorites including Shepherd's Pie, fish 'n' chips, salmon in potato and more. The restaurant also has an ample "snack menu" to nosh on while enjoying a brew.

If you go

The Red Fox English Pub, located at 100 S. Main St. in Royal Oak, is scheduled to open Thursday with patio couches and heaters while the weather warms up. Be sure to let us know what you think after you visit.

Just curious why RO could not revise its new policy (not ordinance) to allow restaurants to put out tables earlier this year. If snow would be the problem simply add to the policy an enforcable "ordinance" that those who chose to put out tables and railings early be responsible to clear any snow in front of their establishment to the curb within four to five hours in the highly unlikely event it snows and sticks. Also curious if other bars with already enclosed outdoor seating such as 3'd Rock can also now open their porches/patios for the season? Best of luck to the Red Fox. I would like to know how their fish and chips will be prepared as I assume this is the best known British fare.

Just stopped by on 4/22 with the wife and kids. The place is GREAT and we will definitely be adding to our restaurant/bar rotation. Bottom line, the food was excellent (the kids really liked it too); the selection of local, domestic, and import beers was really good; nice atmosphere; friendly/efficient staff (our waitress was really accommodating with the kids and all and gave us a bunch of extra McClure's pickles - the best, when we asked)... hell the manager even stopped by to ask how everything was/get feedback (and it wasn't one of those bs/required glide bys like at some places). Really, I'd strongly recommend you give this place a shot, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Also, the patio/deck looked really nice, though it was still too cold when we were there to eat outside. Red Fox in Royal Oak - Thumbs up!
