Peddling Ordinance, OCC Proposal, Arts, Beats & Eats on City Commission Agenda Tonight

Royal Oak officials will tackle a busy agenda when they meet at 7:30 p.m. today at City Hall.

At their 7:30 p.m. regular meeting at City Hall, Royal Oak officials are expected to discuss a variety of matters.

To knock or not to knock? In February, the Royal Oak City Commission voted to direct the city attorney's office to prepare proposed amendments to the peddling ordinance, which would allow for the creation of a Do Not Knock registry that would be provided to anyone issued a peddler's license. The registry would also be made available on the city's website. Tonight commissioners will vote on a second reading of the amendment.

City Commissioners will also look at a proposal from Oakland Community College (OCC) to negotiate a purchase agreement for the city owned property adjacent to the college at the southwest corner of Main Street and Seventh Street, which was formerly the Fresard bump shop property. OCC would like to purchase the property in anticipation of expanding its facilities, according to a memo from City Manager Don Johnson.

City Commissioners will also have a discussion of Arts, Beats & Eats as requested by Commissioners Peggy Goodwin and David Poulton.

Other agenda items include:

  • Permit parking ordinance amendment
  • Approval of sidewalk café agreement for Taste Love Cupcakes
  • Discussion of Capital Improvement Plan process as requested by Mayor Pro Tem Capello and Poulton

I personally am in favor of O.C.C. being able to expand. It only makes sense since there really isn't a whole lot of room for them to just incorporate buildings all through out the city. I would like to see this myself. Possibly a science lab of some sort?

The behavior and pure disregard for transparency now demanded in this era of mushrooming corruption manifested primarily in conflicts of interest and disregard for existing sunshine laws such as our MOMA was apparent. It is time to bring in an outside state, or federal investigation to probe for abuse by any RO elected official of their position for personal gain, and institute stronger guidelines and laws to prevent such abuse in the future.
