This will continue to increase now that RO approved a liquor store on main across from Finn. Guess the church sold out. Maybe we can get a pawn shop and another cheap motel. I thought we had enough liquor stores?

The endless string of cars being broken into at LA Fitness is really ridiculous. Every week, there are at least three or four entries on the police blotter.

When is LA Fitness going to get of its butt and install some cameras and/or get some parking lot security? Thery're a reliable part of the police log for car break-ins.

Chief, you are misinformed. The Franklin will be a deli with a small area for convenience store-type items, it will not be a liquor store.

LA fitness is a joke. They make so much money they've oversold the membership, there's no parking! The city needs to force them to get them security. I go there and talk to the manager about it and guess what her sponsor was to me, " don't leave anything valuable in your car". Royal oak is a safe city and LA Fitness is turning ot into downtown Detroit.

Hypothesis:When all this action occurs around one location could it be related to the possibility that this is a known hub for the buying and selling of narcotics? There must be a good reason to take the risk of having a membership in a club with so many incidents of larceny.
RO is not Maybury RFD our PD has the ability place a team designed to stop this, If not RO needs to call in the State Police. Too much police time and tax revenue is being taken up with what is appearing to be a nuicance business that cares little about the safety of its clientel possibly because they do not live here.

Another theory is that these crimes took place elsewhere, but for insurance purposes it is easy to say it happenned in a parking lot of a business you patronize.

To Pasternak: If you had insurance and lived in Detroit would it not be easier while you are at LA to bother one of our officers to make the report, or wait for hours or days for one to arrive in Detroit? Or to have to find your local precinct to make this low priority report? After reading Maurice's comment below I believe that it is more likely the combination of their clientel and the convenient Woodward and freeway get aways. DMC is definitely going to be surpised if this is the case.

On the heroin bust the detectives should take his picture to various bars in Royal Oak to see which ones he may frequent. This would tell the police immediatelly where drug connections are possibly being made. Or does that take too much effort?
The grapevine says that RO definitely has a heroin problem, though not as bad as major cities. Its a known fact that Pontiac has this problem as well.

No future, You are so right. bars only serve liquor to straight drinkers never junkies meeting their connection. Thats only on television. Today if a junkie wants to connect they can google "heroin" and use credit card or paypal

LA Fitness has a problem. The cars are sitting ducks. Wait to the new DMC opens in a couple of years. Remember, ROYAL OAK is 3 miles north of the poorest city in the US. Crime flows to where the money is

Steph - "you are misinformed. The Franklin will be a deli with a small area for convenience store-type items, it will not be a liquor store."

When the sign says Franklin liquor and will offer fine wines and "Liquor" to me that would be a liquor store. Regardless we don't need another liquor store and especially not on south part of Main St. We already have enough luring criminals.

Maybe if people would not leave their wallet and purses in their car they would not get broken into. It's not rocket science. Ever heard of a trunk? The police and LA Fitness cannot babysit your car for you 24/7. Take some responsibility for your own security.

Mike I have lived in the condos across the street from LA fitness for almost 6 years. I have never heard of tproblems with peoples cars getting broken into or stolen in all the surrounding area with all of that on street parking. Sense LA fitness has opened all of this has gone downhill. It's not just the cars, people are stealing things out of the locker rooms there fistfights on the basketball court there that spill out into the workout center. LA fitness has no control whatsoever! The place is packed every day they're making money but LA fitness management is clearly incompetent and is neglectful of anything right now!

before the parking lot crime was @ LA Fitness, it was @ the YMCA. The neighborhood isn't ruined. Relax. And- to imply that wallets being stolen from cars indicates a drug problem @ the gym is absurd. Check into reality once in a while.

Obviously the key to the problem are those gosh darned fitness junkies. To stamp out crime we must stamp out fitness!

Re: 700 block of Donald
Anybody dumb enough to leave their wallet in an unlocked car deserves to have it stolen. Hopefully, there was lots of dough in the billfold.

How come PATCHY ain't reporting on this: man accused of attacking Birmingham cab driver-faces several charges including assault, battery, possession of stolen credit card after night at Birmingham's Corner Bar. No doubt it's some "hood" person originally from the "D" or some Chaldean.

How come PATCHY ain't reporting on this:
ROYAL OAK, Mich. -
"Police in Royal Oak responded to a call Wednesday of one dog attacking another.
This happened on the city's south side on Dallas Street.
Officers said a pit bull-shepherd mix jumped a fence and attacked a Chihuahua in a neighbor's yard, killing the smaller dog." This is why all pit bulls need to be euthanized or shot or both.

Sage advice Lissa. If people collectively used common sense there would a lot fewer incidents of vehicle break ins for one thing.
