Ever notice how whenever you see a headline about a dog attacking another dog, 9 out of 10 times it's a pitbull? Of course, pitbull owners always exclaim: "It's not the breed, it's the owner." That's a crock! It's the BREED. You never read about poodles or Golden Retrievers attacking other dogs, do you? Give me a break. With so many great breeds out there, why people choose to own this dangerous one is beyond me.

If you feel strongly on this please contact the city. I did and they suggested they may look at it at the next meeting. More support on this might gain traction and action. You can email the commission from the following location:

Ray, it's ignorant comments like yours that have helped to create such a huge stigma over pit bulls. Yes, pits are protective animals - they're also loyal, very gentle unless there's a stranger on their territory, and they're actually one of the cuddliest breeds I've ever seen. Almost all breeds around today were bred for a purpose, and pits are protectors. I think what does need to change is owners not understanding that these dogs ARE bred to protect their territory, and it is beyond stupid to have one if you don't have the proper fencing in your yard/aren't willing to train it. We have a Staffordshire (same line as pits, just bigger) and after a lot of training and effort, he's awesome with kids and our 11 pound shitzu. Would I let him run around on the street by himself? No way! Stop blaming the dogs and shame on the owners that don't have a clue as to what they're doing.

While the Pit Bull ban debate continues, let us not forget that a family has lost their little pet. If anyone has contact information for the owners of the small dog, can you please email me privately with their information or ask them to contact me. Cathi from shihtzuresq@yahoo.com
