ROHS Robotics Team “Techs” First Place
Takes all four matches in competition.
The Royal Oak High School Robotics team traveled to Waterford-Kettering High School on Thursday to compete against 25 other teams. With 74 points and a sweep of four matches, the team took home first place – but only after a ruling as another team also had 74 points.
In the four matches, Royal Oak was “allianced” with another school for two minutes competing against two other robots to complete game tasks. During the awards ceremony, Royal Oak was recognized with a Strategic Design Award as its robot had “consistent and reliable design to complete the game tasks.”
The competition was close as two teams had tied with 74 and a third had 73 points. In referring to the rulebook, Royal Oak was determined to be the winner due to the fact that it had won all four of its matches. During competition, the team knew it had done well but had no idea they had won first place.
The team has three more competitions in the OCCRA game series along with an additional vex tournament in December. The next tournament is Saturday, November 3, at South Lyon High School. The tournament will focus on diversity.
