Royal Oak Patch Editor Honored with 'Green Monster' Award

Royal Oak Patch Editor Judy Davids receives award from Patch for exceptional achievement.

Patch awarded Royal Oak Patch Editor Judy Davids with one of its biggest honors of the year in New York City on Friday morning.

The company named Davids a winner of the "Green Monster" award.

Twice a year, Patch, honors employees for exceptional achievement with a "Green Monster" award. It is given to employees who demonstrate Patch values, achieve their personal goals and make a critical impact on the business. Patch, which is headquarterd in the Big Apple, has 906 Patches and 1,500 employees across the country—from Long Island to Malibu.

Along with a plaque, she earns a $5,000 cash prize.

Ferndale Patch editor Jessica Schrader nominated Davids for the the award.

"Judy really exemplifies everything a Patch editor should be," Schrader wrote in her nomination. "By being extremely connected to her town, she seems to have developed relationships and a level of trust in the community."

Readership has increased on Royal Oak Patch during Davids' leadership of the site.

Davids credited the "vibrant" town of Royal Oak and the accessibility of officials she works with including the mayor, city commission, police chief and school superintendent, for her success.

"I was really humbled by the whole thing. I wish I could have a big party in Royal Oak because so many people bent over backwards to help me," Davids said. "I feel so lucky everyday that Royal Oak is really a cool town to cover. I am excited about the future of Royal Oak Patch."

Michigan Patch Ad Manager  Susanne Spruit has earned the PROPS award from the company.

Thank you everyone! I made it home safely. Luckily, my plane was delayed due to poor weather or I think I would have missed it.

We were in Times Square and asked for a restaurant recommendation from some guy selling tickets to a comedy show. He asked if we (Susan Spruit was with me) wanted to eat pizza made by people who talk like Tony Soprano. We said yes. He hailed a cab for us and barked out some intersection. The food was terrific but we had no idea where we were and we had a plane to catch. As I head to Laguardia, certain I was going to miss my flight, I received a phone call from Delta about the flight delay. I was so happy. I gave the cab driver a tip and he said, "You are a VERY good tipper," which is further proof I have no idea what I am doing in New York.

Without a doubt you deserved that award, How did you like my home town? Is your neck still stiff? Did you go to Rays, or one of the many in the village, or little italy with coal fired ovens over eighty years old? Try Fellini's on Washington for some of the smells and taste of Naples, even better than many in NYC which are more Sicilian. For me one of the best sandwich's is the NYC grilled sweet fennel Italian sauage, pepper and onion found in the "village" an area of NY RO that some think RO emulates (wrong).
The "new" RO contrary to its older image is way too stodgy and paranoid in trying to be Birmingham and even less intolerant as this patch can attest to. That is what money does I guess.
