Royal Oak Schools Close Monday

A wintry mix that began Sunday night forced the district's first weather-related closing this year.

Royal Oak Public Schools will be closed Monday due to a mixture of snow and ice that hit southeastern Michigan Sunday night. All school activities and events are cancelled.

St. Mary Catholic SchoolSt. Paul Luteran SchoolShrine Catholic Grade School, and Shrine Catholic High & Academy are also closed today.

But today's "snow" day may not be just that: temperatures were expected to reach near 50 degrees Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. On Tuesday, the high temperature will be near 60 degrees, forecasters say. The rain is expected to continue both days.

By Wednesday, snow will return to the area, with temperatures forecast in the 20s.
