The students at Upton Elementary School had a special visitor from East Lansing today - Sparty!
The Michigan State University mascot came to Royal Oak to get the students excited about reading by acting out a children's book, leading chants and taking group photos with the students.
Many of the students wore green, Sparty's favorite color, and all cheered loudly when the tall mascot entered the gym.
The visit was courtesy of Sparty’s pals Alex, 9, and Zack, 5, Eisenberg. The boys' father, Jeff Eisenberg, MSU class of ’84, arranged for the visit through the MSU Oakland County Alumni Club.
Sparty took time to visit every classroom at Upton before hopping on a bus and heading to Columbus where he will cheer on the top-seeded Spartans when they play Long Island University-Brooklyn on Friday.
If you would like Sparty to visit your school, visit the Student Alumni Foundation website. (Sparty even owns a tuxedo and is happy to come to weddings.)
The MSU Oakland County Alumni Club meets at the Farmington Hills Library on the first Wednesday of the month. All are welcome to attend.
