Good, wonderful thoughts raced through the veins of my cousin yesterday when she opened a package. Inside was a much loved quilt, made with blocks of love, a son gone to soon, pictures of a sister lost to cancer, and so many blocks made with love in honor of all that she is.
My cousin has endured so many losses, I wanted to give back, so she received a quilt, she had no idea and it was hard not letting on to her that it was being made. Quilt blocks came from all over, shared memories from as far back as her childhood.
That is the thing about quilts, so much warmth and love wrapped up inside them, so much goes into the making of a quilt, to be treasured for many years. Quilts have been around forever, but none like this one.
Death has a way of robbing us that lasts for a very long time, often the death of a loved one causes more loss, depression and turmoil. It is so final, and yet we're at the mercy of ourselves, to go on, pull through. This quilt will do just that, rekindle a lost love, strengthen the ties that were broken and renew hope.
Treasure the memories, there are so many more yet to come.
