The thrill of being Grandma or Grandpa, so much love and joy wrapped up in a little bundle we call the babies who melt our hearts at the first sight of them. I've been a grandma for a few years now, the oldest is in his teens. It seems like only yesterday that I held that little darling for the first time.
Soon after came three more, one at a time of course. I enjoy them all. For a few years it was long distance, it wasn't much fun only hearing their voices on the phone. I'll never forget the look on my parent's faces at the sight of a new grandchild. I grew up in a large family, but seeing another little bundle of joy was always a happy time for my parents. My Mom would be holding the baby close and my Dad standing over her shoulder smiling and wiping a tear away. My Dad had a loud voice but such a soft heart when it came to babies.
In our large family most of us have grandchildren, one or two siblings are waiting patiently. That was the case for my oldest brother until recently. He has joined the ranks as a proud grandparent, his first grandchild has arrived, a baby boy. I've not had the pleasure of meeting the new baby yet, I've only seen the pictures. The look on my brother's face as he looks into the eyes of this new baby is priceless. The long awaited anticipation to share wit and wisdom with his first grandchild as only a grandparent can is so worth the wait.
Grandchildren are one of life's greatest joys, we have the chance to teach and share all that we know with the next generation. I know my brother's wheels are already turning, oh the things he'll share about his Dad, Grandpa, and Grandma, trains, baseball, the fighting Irish and so much more.
Life as we know it becomes so much more special as we learn to see it through our grandchildren's eyes. Enjoy your grandchild, big brother, as we all know they grow up so fast.
