In the most recent Royal Oak City police report published12/19/12; there was yet another report about a Pit Bull attack killing a neighbor’s pet - where it stands this is 4 attacks in just over 1 year due to negligent owners and dangerous pets.
October 28, 2011
The Royal Oak Patch reported a resident of an apartment complex was outside with her small dog when her pet was attacked by pit bull. The pit bull also bit the dog's owner on her thumb when she tried to protect her dog. The resident who owned the pit bull was ticketed for the incident.

Royal Oak Patchreported Royal Oak officers responded to investigate the report of a dog thathad attacked another dog. The investigation revealed a pit bull and shepherd mix dog jumped the backyard fence into a neighbor's yard and killed a Chihuahua. The owner of the pit bull mix was issued a violation for a dangerous animal at large. The Pit Bull owner only later euthanized his pet.

The News-Herald reported a Pit Bull attacked a Leader Dogs for the Blind puppy in training in the middle of downtown Royal Oak, while with the blind client. Luckily 10 men on the scene were able to pry the aggressor dog off the puppy in time for the dog in training to sustain only minor injuries.

Royal Oak patch reported Royal Oak officers responded to a report of two pit bulls attacking a smaller dog. Upon arrival to the scene the officerfound the pit bulls were viciously attacking a smaller dog. A lone Royal Oak officer shot both of the pit bulls. The owner of the pit bulls was issued several ordinance violations. The dog that was attacked did not survive.
Unfortunately Royal Oak has had to sustain 5 needless pet deaths in the last year or so. In my opinion we have also been lucky we have dodged situations where people and more importantly children could have been hurt. It is only a matter of time until a child is harmed by one of these animals; if we do not do anything about it shame on us.
I am frankly growing impatient with the excuses people make for dangerous animals. People like to point out that other dogs may be violent - which I concede can be true. However I can’t help but notice that the ONLY animal attacks in Royal Oak I ever see reported involve Pit Bulls. Nor can people logically ignore the fact that this breed was specifically bred for aggression and violence, and unfortunately many Pit Bull owners take pride in those intimidating qualities in this breed.
I think it’s time we stop dancing around this issue and address the appropriate animal control with an ordinance ban on dangerous breeds in our beautiful city. There is no need for this type of violence to continue. I encourage you to express your concerns to our city council, if you too indeed feel like me.
You can email the city or phone them through ROSCO if you wish. Please see link below:

This is absurd first off we're there DNA test done to these dogs to even see if they were American pitbull terriers or did people just report that there was a dog that looked like a pitbull. Unlike some breeds people mistake pitbulls with all different types of bull breed but that is besides the point. This problem has nothing to do with the dog but the owners it didn't matter if they had a Rottweiler, Doberman, German shepered. This is very upsetting to here someone wanting to ban the animal that is like a son to me and is the most well trained and loved dog in my neighborhood. I know of many people in this area with bull breeds and they all are great dogs and responsible owners. APBT score higher on the AKC temperament test the golden retrievers they were referred to as "the nanny" dog the served our country and saved life's during times of war and you want to ban it because owners are training it to be vicious. I am all about keeping people and pets safe but banning a breed is not the way. Please please research this breed and the problem more before you persue this. These bans allow someone to have their pet taken from them just because of its looks no matter what the papers say, for humans this is called profiling and is unconstitutional. My dog is like a son to me and I love him like one.

pitbull and similar breed owners need to have their heads checked in my opinion. all dogs should be muzzled when out in public regardless of breed. if there is to be any mauling it should happen in the privacy of your own home.

The Pit Bull was NOT BRED FOR AGGRESSION OR FIGHTING. DO YOUR RESEARCH. However, you may want to pull your head out of your ass first. Just sayin.

katie, maybe someday it will be your _____that will be lunch for your family pet. If you own a pit bull that is not pure bred by licensed breeders, and one of those would cost really big money, I can bet your dog may be a rescue dog, one that is without doubt bred in the inner city, or the sticks, or wherever dog fight clubs exist, and they still exist. Yes, check the Detroit News an Free Press and you will also find dog mills, or private owners offering pit bulls whose brothers and sisters have been bred just for dog fighting , or used to protect drug dens. No matter how you train these apparently intelligent family friendly dogs, and most are not properly trained to own one is like owning a loaded gun with one exception. With a gun you are always in control. Does the city of "Detroit" ring a bell Katie? Yes, Rotweillers, Doberman's and even Shepherds can be dangerous and known to "turn", but only badly bred pit bulls are known to charge and attack other dogs as well as postal workers etc. You do the research.

The data is irrefutable. Writing in caps does not make up for the pure evidence.

Tim, Its not just the caps take agressive context of her statement. I would not want to be around any dog she owns. Even a shitsu.

I am for the future banning of pits by RO. not the removal of beloved family members as there are pits that are well controlled by intelligent owners, who in my opinion put their families at risk. I know two families that own parrots, one I feed and it kisses me, the other I also hand feed but it will go for the finger after it takes the seed. I am not for the banning of parrots. Thanks to the dog fighting thug and drug culture that grew in Detroit and other cities with inadequate police protection pit bulls have become the crime deterrent of choice. But tell that to the postal workers.
Other breeds can be just as dangerous but the statistics in RO speak for themselves.
We need larger penalties for uncontrolled dogs of all kinds, and we need to not license any more pits that do not have pedigree papers that would demonstrate that these dogs are obviously less viscious than their less loved cousins. I have confidence our animal control officer can identify a pit breed that is likely to attack. The owning of more than one of the known viscious breeds should be outlawed and that includes Rin Tin Tin.
