The five-term Oakland County executive and founder of The Brooksie Way is seeking another four years.
In an effort to continue what he calls a "legacy of leadership" in Oakland County, L. Brooks Patterson filed for re-election as Oakland County executive Thursday morning at the county clerk's office. Patterson, a 73-year-old Republican, is seeking his sixth term. Huntington Woods resident and business executive Kevin Howley has filed as a Democrat to run against Patterson in the November election. "My administration has a legacy of leadership that is unmatched," Patterson said in a statement Thursday. Three Royal Oak residents have thrown their hats into the ring to replace retiring Judge Daniel Sawicki of Royal Oak's 44th District Court. The deadline for candidates to file for a spot on the Aug. 7 primary ballot was 4 p.m. Tuesday. Derek Meinecke, Carlo Ginotti and Ed Nahhat have filed, according to the Michigan Department of State primary candidate listing. Voters will select two of the three candidates to move forward to the Nov. 6 general election for the seat. The salary of a 44th District Court judge is $138,272. Judges serve six-year terms and have no term limits but there is an age limit of 70. More than 1,000 protesters chanted, marched and yelled as attendees arrived Tuesday evening for a Republican dinner at the San Marino Club in Troy. The 9th Congressional District Republican committee's Southeast Michigan Ronald Reagan Memorial Dinner 2012 was the event, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's appearance there was the draw for protesters. The crowd, estimated by Troy police to have reached about 1,300 people at one point, chanted "What do we want?" and an answering "Justice!" and "When do we want it?" "Now!" Romney edged Santorum 3,311 to 1,973; there were a total of 8,119 votes cast.
