Arts, Beats & Eats Parking Permits Begin Arriving in Mail

Arts, Beats & Eats parking permits began arriving in the mail this week to Royal Oak residents who live in neighborhoods in an approximate one mile radius of the festival's footprint.

On-street parking during the Labor Day weekend event is reserved for residents and on a permit parking only basis from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

The permits must be displayed so that the address is visible through the windshield on the front driver's side. In addition, the vehicle must be parked within 200 feet of the address printed on the front of the permit.

Each household in the permit parking only zone gets two passes but may request more on the City of Royal Oak's website at http://www.ci.royal-oak.mi.us/portal/content/abe-park

Violators will be ticketed

Vehicles that are parked in a permit parking only zone without a valid permit can be ticketed and/or towed at the Royal Oak Police Department's discretion. The scheduled fine for parking in a permit parking only zone without a permit is $50, according to the city's website.

In 2012, 1,613 parking tickets were issued by police, up from 1,157 in 2011 but still less than the first year when 1,873 drivers found a $50 ticket tucked under their windshield wiper.
