Royal Oak Jaycees host member recruitment event

The Royal Oak Jaycees (Junior Chamber) are hosting a membership recruitment event on Thursday, June 19, from 6- 8 p.m. at Starr Jaycee Park, 1101 W. 13 Mile Rd. in Royal Oak.

The event has two purposes: The first is for current members to socialize and network. The second is to meet prospective new members who are interested in learning more about the Jaycees organization and this chapter, specifically.

From 6-7 p.m. is a membership social - an open house that people can attend any time to meet current members.

From 7-8 p.m., the chapter will provide picnic food and will hold a short General Membership Meeting to share upcoming projects.
Interested potential members are encouraged to stay for the food and meeting.

Flagship projects for the chapter are the South Oakland Chili Cook Off, pub crawls and the Jaycee Freeze, an event for
homelessness awareness. Previous Royal Oak Jaycees events have supported many local community organizations –
The South Oakland Shelter, the Royal Oak Animal Shelter and the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Michigan among others. The
Jaycee chapter has provided both financial donations, as well as manpower and planning support.

The event chair, Jennifer Sutherland, is a long-standing Royal Oak Jaycee. A supporter of all things leadership and personal development related, she offered to host this event to help the current chapter grow. With more members, the Jaycees chapter can provide more community projects – designed to build leadership skills for the individual chapter member.

"This event will, of course, be a lot of fun. In addition, the
Royal Oak community will ultimately benefit from the projects that this chapter creates and supports," said Sutherland.

The Royal Oak Jaycees have been actively supporting the Royal Oak community for almost 11 years. The Jaycees are
an organization that provides young people (ages 21 to 40) the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills.
Our purpose is to create positive change within our organization and communities by providing young people with an organization of shared values through personal and professional development, social and cultural diversity, networking, and community improvement.
