Community Corner

Royal Oak Jaycees making a difference in their community

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Royal Oak area thanks to events of the Royal Oak Jaycees.  As the current President of the Michigan JCI Senate, senior organization to the Jaycees, I have had the opportunity to travel to many communities throughout our great state.  I am in awe of this particular Jaycees chapter.  These young men and women have a close bond with local government, merchants and other key members in the area.  They have been involved in many community projects such as Jaycee Freeze (fundraiser for SOS – South Oakland Shelter), Starr Jaycee Park Cleanup, Relay for Life (Troy area) and worked with the local Kiwanis club to put on the Pitch, Hit and Run for Kids.  Coming up this weekend is another great project – the South Oakland Chili Cook-off.  This event will raise funds for the South Oakland Boys and Girls Club, as well as donations to the Royal Oak Parks Department.  The event will be held this Saturday, September 21st, from 6-10pm at the Royal Oak Farmer’s Market in downtown Royal Oak.
I would hope that other men and women, between the ages of 21 and 40, who enjoyed these activities, will seek out membership to the Royal Oak Jaycees.  Imagine what this dynamic group of young adults could plan and implement with more members of the community.  Find out more: royaloakjaycees.org
Congratulations and good luck to the Royal Oak Jaycees,Susan K Foltin #6374441st President, MI JCI Senate
