"Save You, Save Me" - When humans save animals, who is truly saved?

On Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 7:00pm, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) and the Animals and Society Institute (ASI) will co-host “Save you, save me presented by Dr. Pete Porter, Associate Professor of Theatre & Film at Eastern Washington University.  The event will be held at The Baldwin Theatre located at 415 S. Lafayette Avenue (between Fourth and Sixth streets) in Royal Oak.

Dr. Porter will discuss the question of “who is truly saved” through films, e.g., A Dolphin Tale, Buck and Big Miracle; how they make a strong case for extending the human circle of compassion to include non-humans; and how mutual healing occurs when people rescue animals.  Film clips will be shown. Discussion and Q&A to follow.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Join us!

General tickets are $20; $10 for students and seniors.   General tickets are available online at http://www.michiganhumane.org/speakers or by contacting Jo-Ann Swaney at (248) 283-5671 or via e-mail to jswaney@michiganhumane.org.  Students and seniors must call to purchase tickets at the discounted rate.  Tickets may also be purchased at the door between 5:30pm & 6:30pm (cash only).
