ALERT: Ice Storm Warning Issued for Parts of Southeast Michigan

Travel, especially this evening, is strongly discouraged.

An ice storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Detroit/Ponitac for parts of southeast Michigan from 2 p.m. this afternoon to 7 a.m. Sunday.

Freezing rain raining is expected along the I-69 corridor to near 8 Mile Road. For the City of Detroit and points south, just a cold rain is expected, according to NWS.

"Ice accumulations of a quarter of an inch to half an inch are expected. Northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph will add stress to ice coated trees and power lines," according to the report.

NWS predicts the ice storm has the potential to produce power outages that could last several days.

Travel, especially this evening, is strongly discouraged.
