Beaumont Health System has announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors. They are:
Richard Astrein, Huntington Woods, president and owner of Astrein Creative Jewelers in Birmingham. Astrein has served as a Beaumont trustee since 2002. He also serves as a Beaumont Foundation board member and as co-chair of Stars Guitars, a fundraising event benefitting the Charles A. Main, M.D. Pediatric Cancer Survivor Scholarship Fund.
Astrein is active in many other community groups. He has served as a board member of Common Ground and as chairman of the Alzheimer Association Chocolate Jubilee. He is past president of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce and was recently re-appointed to the board of the Birmingham Principal Shopping District. He has been honored as the recipient of United Way’s Heart of Gold Award, recognizing his dedication to community service benefiting Detroit area residents.
Astrein has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.
William K.M. Goldsmith, Bloomfield Hills, founder of Nantucket Capital Management, a wealth management firm for high net worth individuals and institutional investors. Goldsmith has served as a Beaumont trustee since 2003, chairs the Beaumont Investment Committee, is a board member of the Beaumont Indemnity Company Ltd. and is a member of the Finance Committee.
He also serves on the board of the Nantucket Institutional Fund (Cayman) and the Cranbrook Schools board of trustees and governors, chairs the school’s Endowment Investment Committee and is a member of the Capital Markets Task Force and Finance Committee.
Goldsmith has a bachelor’s degree in economics and history from Denison University and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
Stephen R. Polk, Bloomfield Hills, president and CEO of Highgate LLC, in Birmingham. He is the former chairman, president and CEO of R.L. Polk & Co. which was sold to IHS in July 2013.
Polk has served as a Beaumont trustee since 2002. He is vice chairman of the Cranbrook Schools board of trustees, vice president/director of the Detroit Zoological Society and serves on the boards of the Automotive Hall of Fame, College for Creative Studies, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Leader Dogs for the Blind. He is also a member of the board of directors of Fifth Third Bank of Southeast Michigan.
Polk has a bachelor’s degree from Denison University.
Beaumont’s board of directors has governing authority and responsibility for the operation of the organization. Directors are elected to three-year terms and serve without compensation.
