Book Drive Supports Gilda's Club 'Noogieland' After Flood Damage

Royal Oak woman collects books for children who have been diagnosed with cancer or have a parent or loved one who is living with cancer.

When Dawn Ripinski heard Noogieland at Gilda's Club, 3517 Rochester Road, suffered extensive water damage, she knew immediately that she wanted to help in some way.

Noogieland - a magical space for children who have been diagnosed with cancer or have a parent or loved one who is living with cancer - was damaged by water in January when a frozen pipe burst pouring thousands of gallons of water down three floors on the west side of the Clubhouse.

Executive Director Laura Varon Brown hopes that Noogieland can reopen in May or June. In the meantime, Ripinski wants to collect books on Brown's wish list for the children that enjoy Noogieland.

All books must be new, Ripinski said. She'll also accept books for children above and beyond what is on the list for ages 2-13, too.

Books may be dropped off  Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Ripinski's office located at Century 21-Town & Country, 32121 Woodward Ave., Suite 100, Royal Oak.
