DIA Picks Royal Oak Again for 2014 Inside|Out Program

The city is among 18 throughout Metro Detroit chosen to host outdoor art installations this spring and summer.

The Detroit Institute of Arts has selected Royal Oak among the 18 Metro area communities that will feature Inside|Out outdoor art installations this spring and summer.

“We’re excited to embark on the fifth year of Inside|Out,” said Graham W. J. Beal, DIA director in a DIA press release. “It’s been amazing to see how Inside|Out has grown over the past four years, fostering both creativity and pride among residents within their communities.”

Royal Oak hosted Inside|Out summer installations in 2012 when a total of six works of art pieces were hung on the sides of buildings, with one freestanding piece. The pieces were clustered throughout the downtown area within walking or biking distance from each other to encourage people to get out and view all of them.

This year, each community will have from five to 12 images. Exact placements are still being determined and, once finalized, will be featured on an interactive map on the DIA’s website, www.dia.org.
