Dinner with the Beavers on the Auction Block June 14

Eager for beavers? One lucky bidder and nine guests will win the opportunity to have dinner on the Boardwalk at the Detroit Zoo overlooking the new home of North American beavers June and Ward. It’s just one of the extraordinary prizes to be offered in the live auction at the Detroit Zoological Society’s annual Sunset at the Zoo fundraiser.

Inspired by the Zoo’s new Boardwalk overlooking the Cotton Family Wetlands and soon-to-open Jane and Frank Warchol Beaver Habitat, Sunset at the Zoo “Boardwalk Bash” takes place on Friday, June 14, 2013, 7-11:30 p.m. The Zoo closes at 2 p.m. in preparation for the festivities.

Presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, the 21-and-over, rain-or-shine soiree offers a strolling supper by more than 40 restaurants, zoo-themed cocktails, boardwalk games, a Ferris wheel and performances by Detroit Flyhouse. The gala event also features music by The Jerry Ross Band, dancing, live and silent auctions and access to the Zoo’s award-winning animal habitats at twilight.

In addition to breakfast with the beavers, the live auction includes other “zoonique” prizes such as dinner for 12 with the giraffes, lions or polar bears; a fall hayride and twilight tour of the Zoo with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for 12; and the opportunity to name a baby Zoo animal.

Additional exciting live auction lots include a Fox Theater suite and dinner at Vinsetta Garage for 15, Winter Classic tickets for two and an autographed Henrik Zetterberg game jersey, the Detroit Tigers president’s suite for 18, and an evening on a private yacht with dinner and drinks for 35.

Tickets for Sunset at the Zoo range from $150 to $300. For more information and to order tickets, visit www.detroitzoo.org/sunset. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate the evening of the event.
