I Asked, Patch Answered: Royal Oak Editor Returns

A familiar face will continue to post stories about Royal Oak.

Last week, I purchased a colorful iPhone 5c. When the sales person showed me the selection of hues, I was immediately drawn to green one.

"Really?" said my husband. "You just can't let go, can you?"

No, I can't.

I asked, Patch answered

After I was laid off last Wednesday, I asked if could continue as a volunteer contributor. The answer is "yes."

So what does that mean exactly? It means the site belongs to "us" for a while and I'll continue to tell your stories, Royal Oak, but I'll need your help.

Send tips, questions and events to judycdavids@gmail.com and I'll do the best I can.

The stories I write may not be as long and there may not be as many as in the past, but I promise I'll continue to be fully immersed in this town we all call home.

And please blog. Let's keep this community conversation going.

Are you in? I am.

Good for you, Judy and thanks. Don't let them harvest your good intentions for too long. I'm sure that something is in the works for the Patch network.
Jennifer Ward February 04, 2014 at 08:21 AM
So that's what happened!! I love my little Patch, but I agree with Ron...you deserve a paycheck for keeping this little e-rag going!
Tim H February 04, 2014 at 08:38 AM
Judy, I hope someone takes notice and pays you what you deserve. If not, I think the woodward corridor market is large enough and active enough to monetize. If you were to start your own local blog / paper I would not only patronize, but I would contribute as well. I'm sure others here would too.
Lianne Mathie February 04, 2014 at 08:41 AM
I'm am so pleased to hear that Judy. I hope the new company will compensate you. That aside, you are terrific at this medium and I see it leading to bigger things:)

Tim, your online petition may not have changed any corporate minds, but it definitely changed my mind! When I read all the lovely comments, I knew I had to keep this going. Make no mistake, I am looking for a full-time position, but in the meantime I'll split my time between writing cover letters and stories about our town. :)
Matt Turner February 04, 2014 at 09:18 AM
I hope you can get back full-time. You have done a great job.

“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” ― Theodore Roosevelt Made me think of you Judy. Welcome back.

Thank you Judy!

Great to have you back. Hope they decide to bring you back for good. We really enjoy your work & go to Patch to see what is going on in R.O. because we know you have that info for us. Thanks for all you have done.

Had a thought: Instead of chasing after yet another vulnerable position with a corporation consider looking into a regular blogging activity that can eventually generate income. Be your own boss instead of what you have already experienced. Check out Michael Hyatts blog and info.

There is a God !! Welcome back - sort of ! Thanks for "volunteering "

I had removed the Patch from my favorites list. Thank you for coming back as a volunteer temp. It is true, reporters have ink in their bloodstream.
Andy S. February 04, 2014 at 11:45 AM
You're good at this Judy... If the Patch doesn't come around with a decent position for you I'd consider starting my own online newspaper in Royal Oak.
Joyce Boulan February 04, 2014 at 11:46 AM
Wish you were back for good. I always read the Patch to find out what was going on in Royal Oak and neighboring communities. Also, to join good discussions.

Hi Judy! I tried emailing you and the email bounced back. What is your new email address? Thanks! Maria

Judy, you are incredible.
Becky February 04, 2014 at 08:25 PM
Last week I was heartbroken when I learned what happened to you and the other Patch employees across the country. My second thought was, "Where am I going to get current, local info now?" I am thrilled, absolutely thrilled to have you writing for us again even in a modest capacity. You do a great job of keeping us informed of what's going on. I understand this is a volunteer thing for you now, but please know how much you and the work you do is appreciated. Thank you, Judy!
Judy Davids (Editor) February 05, 2014 at 05:44 AM
Marie Rose: I don't have a Patch email address anymore. Try judycdavids@gmail.com.
Brett A. Hermance February 05, 2014 at 10:32 AM
Happy to have you back, Judy! Is the e-mail you just told us the one we send the pics, etc?
Peggy Burry February 05, 2014 at 11:05 AM
As usual, it seems like the village idiots are running the show. You did a wonderful job, and I'm glad you are back. Keep up the good work.

Thank you Judy - you're a true journalist - I hope Patch.com survives in SE Michigan - you're one reason it might! p.s. please feel free to send me your resume with a cover letter about what sorts of work you'd like to do ... who knows :-D

What a nice thing you are doing for the community. If Patch continues, which looks to be doubtful, you must be on the top of the list to reinstate. Let's hope so.
