Royal Oak Resident Named Coordinator for High School Exchange Program

Pat Cahill of Royal Oak has been appointed Local Coordinator for Academic Year in America (AYA), one of the largest non-profit high school/homestay exchange programs in the U.S.

As an AYA Local Coordinator, Pat is responsible for finding volunteer host families, ensuring that students are placed in safe and nurturing home environments, liaising with local high schools and supervising students throughout the school year.

Local Coordinators like Pat are open-minded women and men who enjoy working with young people and believe deeply in the value of cross-cultural exchange. AYA Local Coordinators enjoy the rewarding experience of being part of a great public diplomacy effort and bringing the world together through intercultural exchange.

AYA students are ages 15 to 18 and arrive with full medical insurance, spending money, and the hopes of experiencing life in America through the eyes of a caring host family. The students stay with their host for five or 10 months and attend the local high school.

AYA is currently looking for host families for students arriving this fall. To become a host family or to find out how to become involved with AYA in the greater Royal Oak area, please contact AYA at (800) 322-4678  or by e-mail at aya.info@aifs.org . Visit AYA on the web at www.academicyear.org  for a host family application and to view student profiles.
