Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids Provides Winter Accessories for Children in Need

Detroit hip-hop radio station FM 98 WJLB helped raise $70,099.35 and more than 500 coats during its 31st annual Coats for Kids Radiothon presented by Metro PCS on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Michigan Science Center in Midtown Detroit. The total includes a generous contribution from Ford Motor Company Fund of $20,000.

Funds raised during the 12-hour radiothon will help provide coats and winter accessories for Metro Detroit children in need. Salvation Army supporters also enjoyed live appearances by local and national artists, including Ciara, Mario, Trevor Jackson, Rico Love, Sebastian Mikeal and more.

The Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids campaign was supported by corporate sponsors: Metro PCS, Ford Motor Company Fund, Pepsi Beverages Company, McDonald’s, Coventry Care, the Ambassador Bridge and the United Auto Workers-Ford Motor Company. 

“The generosity of metro Detroiters truly shined through at this year’s radiothon,” said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and metro Detroit area Commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “Children and their families shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not they’ll have a coat to wear during these cold Michigan winters. Thanks to the support of FM 98 WJLB and the community many kids will stay warm this winter.”
