Unfinished Foundations Purchased for Condo Project

An unfinished condo project is getting a second chance.

Mayor Jim Ellison, who also sits on the Royal Oak Planning Commission, hinted at Tuesday's meeting that foundations located in the 600 block of W. 11 Mile Road have been sold and a condo development is back in the works.

Jason Craig, the city's chief building official, confirmed building permits were issued on July 1.

"The project will look very similar to the original plan," Craig said. "The layout was tweaked but the concept and the exterior are the same."

Because new owner Joe Dfouny signed off on the framework of the original development, he does not need to go before the commission for approval, Craig said.

Construction on the original project stopped seven years ago after $500,000 of footings and basement/foundation walls were placed. In March 2012, the Royal Oak City Commission voted to have city officials seek bids for the demolition of unfinished project.
