UPDATE: Woodcarver Nails It with Wonderland Sculpture

Woodcarver Steph Collin adds finishing touches to Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat at the corner of 12 Mile Road and Blair Avenue in Royal Oak.

It's time a for a party — a tea party that is!

Woodcarver Steph Collin, of Rochester, was recently hired by Royal Oak resident Dennis Breeze to turn the tall stump of an elm tree into a sculpture of the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat.

Collin finished the sculpture at the corner of 12 Mile Road and Blair Avenue in Royal Oak over the weekend and removed scaffolding.

"It's finished for now. The owner can stare at it for four or five weeks before he decides whether or not to stain it or leave it natural," Collin said.

The work must be sealed before winter to protect it.
