VIDEO: Excited Dogs, Turtle, Guinea Pig Gather for Blessing in Royal Oak

Excited critters and their owners attend service in honor of St. Francis.

"The animals of God's creation inhabit the skies, the earth and the sea. They share in the fortunes of human existence and have a part in human life," is how Rev. Steven Wertanen started his service Saturday morning outside of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Attendees could be heard barking during the annual pet blessing service, including Luigi, a Ferndale dog who was blessed one year ago by Wertanen.

"He was really sick when I brought him the last time. He just had got out of the emergency vet," said Michael Palazzola, of Ferndale.

Palazzola said his vet later told him she couldn't believe Luigi survived.

"He's better than ever," said Palazzola  "I really believe it's because he was blessed here."
