Westbound I-696 to Close July 19 to July 22

Written by Brooke Tajer.

Westbound I-696 will be closed from Telegraph Road, to the I-96/I-275/M-5 interchange Friday, July 19, at 9 p.m. until Monday, July 22, at 5 a.m.

The closure will allow work crews to repair pavement along the busy freeway, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

"Weather permitting, the closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and end by 5 a.m. Monday," the release states. "Closing westbound I-696 will allow this work to be done as quickly as possible and minimize the impact on future weekends."

During the closure, traffic will be detoured using southbound Telegraph Road, then westbound M-102 (Eight Mile Road) to westbound M-5, back to westbound I-696.

Starting Monday night, July 15, there will also be multiple lanes closed during the overnight hours along the same stretch of road to allow crews to prep for the upcoming weekend project. The lane closures will start at 9 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. in the nights leading up to Friday's total closure.
