What's That Big Hole in the Road on Main Street About?

Expect traffic delays on Main Street between Farnum Avenue and 11 Mile Road in Royal Oak as workers install a fire suppression system for the development at 512 N. Main Street, the former home of the Royal Music Center.

"The water main is on the southbound side of the road," said City Engineer Matt Callahan, so Main Street is down to one lane of traffic in either direction.

John Wangler, a former Shrine High School and University of Michigan football star, is the new owner of the 7,897-square-foot building that was once known for its purple walls. Wangler is converting the former music store into retail sales, offices and multiple-family dwelling units.

The construction work on Main Street is expected to last for at least one week, Callahan said.
