Patch reader Sara writes: "I'm looking for non-traditional (aka banquet hall) places to have a baby shower in the local area. Any ideas?"

To answer Sara's question, Patch asked Facebook readers. Here's what they said:

  • Stacy Gwiner: Zoo
  • Amanda Paniccia McMahon: Local in Ferndale and D'amato's in Royal Oak. We had our wedding at D'amato's this year and it was perfect!
  • Jennifer Baum: I went to a baby shower at BlackFinn in their private room. It was nice and the food was great!
  • Karen Liska Evans: Creative Arts Studio, if you want to include a fun activity!
  • Rebecca Hansen Padfield: Local in Ferndale
  • Heather Goerlich: Sweet Lorraine's has a private room, I agree with the Local too, the food is really good!
  • Dana Newman: The Royal Oak Women's club was a wonderful venue for our son & daughter-in-law's wedding shower!
  • Beth Moon Howes: We had a shower in the back room at Oxford Inn. It was very nice!
  • Judith Prawdzik Gates: Crispelli's Club Room (Berkley)! Just reserved it for a baby shower! I think it seats 40-50.
  • Angela Emmerling Boufford: Rustbelt Market (Ferndale).
  • Toby Allen Letzring: Hamlin Corner has a room too. No cost, just need to reserve.
  • Andrey Tomkiw: We did our Christening at Oak City Grill. Had the whole place to ourselves.
  • Amanda Fornal Douglas: Red Run is nice too. Had a baby shower there in 2008.
  • Stephen Haffner: Non-traditional? How about the Detroit Zoo? Seriously. Maybe Cantebury Village? Belle Isle?
  • Maureen Cavanaugh Davies: Just got a plug on The Oxford in R.O. ...check it out.
  • Colette MacDonald Nutton: Nemos has a great back room. Long Acre house in Farmington hills is cool.
  • Dee Vickers: RO Women's Club
  • Shannon McConnell Schrepferman: Local Kitchen and Bar! Has plenty of room for a shower for 60!
  • Amanda D'Angelo: I've had two showers at sweet Lorraine's and it is great. Also I have heard you can host showers at Leon and Lulu's in Clawson!
  • Judi Johnson: Royal Oak Elks Club
  • Gay Emily Thacker: Royal Oak Music theater, they have parties like that, too! Went to a wedding there and it was really nice.
  • Sandy Bohun Woodstock: Detroit Yacht Club
  • Amanda McDonald: Mae's rents out
  • Cassey Dickson: National Coney Island. That's non-traditional!

  • Brett A. Hermance: There are rooms you can use at the Emagine Royal Oak theatre!
  • Jenn Homan Smiljanovski: We threw my sister's baby shower at the Royal Oak Women's Club in August, it's a wonderful venue.
  • Heather Poyhonen: Butterfly House at the Zoo.
  • Allison Torrance Adams: The second floor of Peking House is a great space. The food is excellent too. Their prices seemed good for the amount of food. They box up the leftovers for you.
  • Elisabethe Carlesimo: Planterra conservatory in west Bloomfield. Just got married there in its a beautiful setting.
  • Lynn Blasey: Arab American National Museum has beautiful spaces available.
  • Denice Lillie Rice: AANM is stunning!
