Charity Preview: Arts du Jour Kicks Off Arts, Beats & Eats

More than 50 local eateries will join a stellar lineup of entertainment for an event that benefits nine nonprofit organizations.

The will transform into a strolling dinner and sampling extravaganza for the 10th annual Arts du Jour from 6-11 p.m. on Aug. 23. The official “appetizer” preview of the 2012 Ford Arts, Beats & Eats provides a sneak peek into the eats and entertainment that thousands of people look forward to experiencing at the annual Labor Day festival.

More than 50 of metro Detroit’s restaurants, eateries, sweet shops and boutiques, such as , and , will serve their finest offerings while some of the most talented bands and cultural performers take to two main stages. 

Nine nonprofit organizations will receive 75 percent of the proceeds from Arts du Jour and event attendees can choose which of those organizations their ticket benefits. The recipient organizations are Forgotten Harvest, Gleaners, Arthritis Foundation, South Oakland Shelter,, The Rainbow Connection, Rose Hill Center, Michigan Pet Fund Alliance and Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan.

Two stages will showcase metro Detroit’s most talented performers in addition to strolling illusionists, stilt walkers, acrobats and pyrotechnics by the Detroit Flyhouse Performers. Live bands, DJs and Detroit’s most unique musical performers will turn up the in the spirit of the music and arts in a preview of the remarkable talent that will fill the streets of Royal Oak on Labor Day weekend.

Musical entertainment begins with a performance by Zap Toro, a local band with an accomplished lineup and a sound that has been described as powerful, captivating and unwavering.  Specializing in artisan music from around the globe, the group’s goal is to lay down the funkiest dance parties and biggest rock shows on earth.

Headliners for the evening will be Persuasion Band. One of the hottest party bands in metro Detroit, Persuasion brings high-energy performances featuring music from every genre, including Motown, disco and Top 40, rock, funk and more. Rounding out the lineup will be The Waycross Georgia Farmboys and The Marvins.

"Arts du Jour is unmatched when it comes to the quality and diversity of our culinary offerings, and this year it is certain to be one of the tastiest."
