Get Out: Comedy, Kids Fashion Week, Killer Flamingos and More

If you are sticking around town or have visitors in, there's plenty to do in Royal Oak this weekend.

This weekend amidst the barbecues and Fourth of July celebrations, there are some fun events going on around town that can add to your weekend enjoyment.

1.

Where/when: Thursday 6 p.m., 
Why go:
Grab the kids and enjoy an evening at the Barnes & Noble for storytime, the featured book is Froggy Goes to Hawaii. Enjoy games, songs, activities and cookies.

2.

Where/when: Friday 3 p.m., 
Why go:
The Black Literary Marketplace Expo will showcase a collaboration of exhibitors, vendors, authors and speakers. There will be a number of book exhibits, a luncheon, press party and author signings.

Where/when: Friday 9:30 p.m., 
Why go:
Dwayne Gills is a former Michigan police officer and he draws on some of his experiences on the force for his comedic prose. He has been featured on America 's Dumbest Criminals and was the winner of the World's Funniest Cop Competition.

Where/when: Saturday 4:30 p.m., 
Why go:
Come out to the Royal Oak Farmers Market for the first kids fashion showcase. The event will be hosted by Identity Studio and Gina T and will feature designers, models, dancers and singers. This will be a fun family fashion event that you won't want to miss.

Where/when: 9 p.m. Sunday, 
Why go: 
The Killer Flamingos is one of Michigan's favorite party bands and known for playing favorite hits and then some. Dance the night away to its high-energy blend of pop, rock and electronica.
